For Janet Manyowa, music all began at a very tender age when she would lead praise and worship in her hometown church, in the small town of Chegutu. Born to the Manyeza family, her parents identified her zeal and passion that they sent her to music school at the age of 10. Little did she know that God her bigger plans for her in music ministry when she composed her first meaningful song at the age of 13. Throughout her high school days at Sandringham High School, Janet led her peers in worship and started receiving invites to sing at other churches, colleges and events. Being part of Celebration choir since 2008 to date, Janet has continually been involved in the choir’s recordings as a backing and lead vocalist.
At the beginning of 2015, Janet was introduced to Dr Comfort Manyame by her husband and they worked on releasing the track Amazing God. This anthem released a spirit of worship to countless audiences each time it was ministered or heard. So huge was the reception of Amazing God that Janet started working on releasing a full worship album – King of Glory. She later on released two more singles, Ndomira Pamuri and Tarisa in preparation to the album.
August 1 2015, Janet released and launched her 11 track debut album. Why King of Glory? All songs in the album are centred on God, in his glory, in his grace and as our King. Since the release of the album many opportunities have opened up for the musician with notable awards being received. To date, four tracks from the album King of Glory have topped gospel charts around the country, all reaching the number one position on at least one radio station.
Janet has also released an award winning video for the track Ndomira Pamuri and most recently Kune Muponesi which features Minister Michael Mahendere.
Janet was chosen as the Best Female Artist for 2015 according to the prestigious Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) among other various awards and nominations. All the success goes to show that the grace of God is present in her music.
Though Janet is an accountant by profession, in a full time job, she has managed to concurrently wear a number of hats namely wife, mother, choir director, student and musician with the support of a solid family structure. She is married to Munyaradzi Manyowa who has been the backbone of steering the ship and supporting his wife to do what God has called her to. Their two children Matipa and Waishe are a source of joy and encouragement and are not to be left out in cheering their mother on.
